NBM plc Commits To Strengthen Corporate Governance and Accountability

National Bank of Malawi, NBM plc, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening corporate governance and accountability after contributing K5 million towards this year’s Institute of Internal Auditors in Malawi, IIAM, Governance Forum and Annual Conference.

The conference, which has a total budget of K500 million, is scheduled to take place from 7th to 13th September 2026 in Mangochi under the theme, “Currency of Trust: Governance as a Strategy, Assurance as Proof.”

The forum is expected to bring together professionals and key stakeholders to deliberate on effective governance, risk management, internal controls and accountability, areas considered crucial to building public and investor confidence in organisations.

Speaking during the cheque presentation ceremony in Blantyre, NBM Head of Internal Audit Noel Tomoka said the bank’s contribution demonstrates its commitment to supporting professional institutions that play a critical role in strengthening organisational systems and safeguarding stakeholder interests.

Tomoka said effective internal auditing is essential in identifying risks, strengthening controls and ensuring organisations operate transparently and responsibly.

Meanwhile, IIAM Chief Executive Officer Albert Dambula has commended NBM for the financial support, saying the sponsorship will help the institute deliver a successful and impactful conference.

Dambula said the forum will provide an important platform for professionals to exchange knowledge and explore strategies for improving governance and assurance practices in Malawi.
