The Machinjiri Muslim Zone Committee in Blantyre has on Sunday carried out a cleaning exercise at South Lunzu Health Centre in Luwanda, Blantyre where the group worked to improve cleanliness within and around the facility.

Men and women from the committee worked together to clean both the interior and exterior areas of the health centre as part of efforts to promote hygiene and create a healthier environment for patients, staff and the surrounding community.

Chairperson of the committee, Hastings Abdullah, said the group considered it important to support the cleaning of the facility because it serves a large number of people from Machinjiri and surrounding areas.

Abdullah said maintaining cleanliness at the health centre would help protect patients and the wider community from various diseases associated with poor sanitation and hygiene.

Deputy Head of South Lunzu Health Centre, Elizabeth Likatho, commended the men and women of Machinjiri Muslim Zone Committee for their commitment and willingness to support the facility.

Likatho said the community’s initiative was particularly important in the fight against diseases that can arise from poor hygiene and sanitation.
