Kanengo Police has recovered 420 bags of soya beans worth K42.2 million that were stolen from Capital Oil Refinery Limited (CORI) in Lilongwe.
The recovery follows the arrest of a 46-year-old suspect Zidyenji Banda in connection with the theft of 600 bags of soya beans on May 25, 2026.
Kanengo Police Public Relations Officer, Sub Inspector MacFarlane Mseteka, has told TVI that investigations revealed that Banda allegedly conspired with a man only identified as Mangani and several CORI security guards to steal the soya beans.
The stolen produce was reportedly sold to Mount Meru Millers in Dowa.
Police has since arrested Mount Meru Millers Manager, Deepu Hari, for allegedly receiving suspected stolen property.
Mseteka said investigations are continuing to trace Mangani, believed to be the mastermind, and recover the remaining 180 bags.
All suspects are expected to appear in court once investigations are completed.
