Mkumba Pledges K2.5 m for Xenophobia Victims

Member of Parliament for Ndirande-Malabada-Nyambadwe Constituency, Ishmael Mkumba of the United Democratic Front (UDF), has pledged K2.5 million to support efforts of repatriating Malawians seeking to return home from South Africa following reports of xenophobic attacks in the country.

The pledge follows a recent commitment by UDF President Atupele Muluzi, who announced a K5 million donation towards the same cause.

Mkumba said the contribution reflects his commitment to supporting fellow Malawians affected by the situation in South Africa and complements the initiative spearheaded by the UDF leadership.

“On behalf of my office, the Office of the UDF Secretary General, and the people of Ndirande-Malabada-Nyambadwe Constituency, I pledge K2,500,000 towards this noble cause,” he said.

He added that assisting Malawians who wish to return home during difficult circumstances is a shared responsibility and called on others to support the initiative.

The donations are expected to assist in facilitating the safe return of Malawians affected by the unrest in South Africa.
