Malawi Environmental Health Association (MEHA), has commended government for walking the talk, in implementing the Sanitation initiative drive.
This follows the Executive order on improving Sanitation and Hygiene in the country.
Speaking with TVI, MEHA President, Bertha Sato, says the organisation is excited to see the ministry of Health and Sanitation and other relevant Ministries, upholding the Executive order by implementing the Sanitation campaign in various cities and towns across the country.
Sato says while the move is recommendable, MEHA is expecting the initiative to be sustainable and spread in all parts of the country so as to live no one behind, in accessing sanitation facilities.
While asking various stakeholders and other partners to join forces with government in achieving the gains of sanitation initiative drive, Sato has also called on government to provide free sanitation facilities such as toilets in the cities and towns so as to help people who can not afford fee-paying facilities.
The Executive order mandates the provision and maintenance of sanitation and waste disposal facilities in public places including Schools, hospitals, markets and workplaces.
