Ministry of Health has asked people in the country to continue observing, with
caution, the HIV and AIDS preventive measures claiming that, the epidemic is still
existing with no cure.
This sentiment has come as the country is holding a 3-day meeting in Lilongwe
aimed at assessing the country’s health sector activities.
Speaking with Television Islam, Ministry of Health spokesperson, Adrian Chikumbe
said that, the ministry in collaboration with other relevant stakeholders, are
committed to fight against AIDS with various interventions in place so that, the
country should achieve the World Health Organization target of combating the
disease by 2030.
According to Chikumbe, the country has managed to achieve some positive
strides in the battle against the disease highlighting that, the number of people
dying from AIDS has significantly reduced.
He said that, among other efforts, the ministry is working on the 99/99/99 model
which strive to make ensure that, 99 percent of the population should know their
HIV status , and also 99 percent of those tested positive should access ARV’s and
also 99 percent of those initiated on ARV’s should have their immunity back to
normal.
