The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has questioned President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s reported absence from the country on a private trip, as Malawians face fuel shortages, electricity blackouts and economic challenges.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lilongwe, MCP Campaign Director, Moses Kunkuyu, said Malawians deserve answers on how government plans to address the crisis and when improvements can be expected.
Kunkuyu also questioned the silence of Vice-President Dr. Jane Ansah and Second Vice-President, Enoch Chihana, saying the two leaders should explain government’s plans and the country’s direction.
While acknowledging the President’s right to attend to personal matters, Kunkuyu said the timing raises concerns amid the challenges facing the country.
He also urged the governing Democratic Progressive Party to end internal fighting and focus on addressing the problems affecting Malawians.
Kunkuyu said citizens need clear communication, answers and decisive action from their leaders.
