Education Sector Losing Teachers

It has been revealed that the education sector loses 20% of teachers annually.
This has been said by the education expert Grace Kaimila Kanjo on Tuesday in
Lilongwe at the 2024 annual education Joint sector review meeting which is held
under the theme education for impact.

In her speech Kaimira Kanjo said that according to the statistics from the 2023/24
education management information systems report the sector loses teachers due
to poor compensation and poor motivation of teachers and lack of staff
development opportunities.

She said due to aforementioned reasons, teachers leave the sector and go to
private sectors particularly non-governmental organizations.

In her part, minister of education Madalitso Kambauwa Wirima said there are a
lot of impactful things that are happening in the education sector despite things
that are lacking on and need attention bid.
