Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI), has called on Finance Minister Joseph Mwanamveka to clearly explain strategies government is implementing to tackle persistent fuel shortages and the limited availability of foreign currency.
Addressing the media in Lilongwe on Thursday, CDEDI Executive Director, Silvester Namiwa, said the current economic difficulties are at odds with the commitments made in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) manifesto, which promised that such challenges would be resolved within the first six months of taking office.
He also expressed support for the Reserve Bank’s decision to sell part of its gold reserves, noting that the move will help generate funds needed for fuel procurement.
